We envisage chinthanaloka as an institution that caters to the “integral development” of the student: mature in relationship with fellow human beings; rooted in a solid religious vision of god, man and the world; competent to dialogue with people in a multi-religious and pluri-cultural context and committed to one’s own responsibilities as a god-fearing citizen.
Chinthanaloka leads the mind and heart of the student to explore the world of thought expressed especially through philosophy, religion, humanities and education so that he/she acquires:
Domine Ut Tideam (That I may see…)
Is taken from the gospel of St. Luke 18:41 on the encounter between the blind man of Jericho and Jesus. The yearning of the blind man to “see” reflects every human person’s insatiable search for meaning. This search reaches its zenith in that realm where the “seeing” becomes an experiential awareness of the totality of reality. The formation that chinthanaloka offers is geared towards the realization of this insight into the mystery of reality and thereby paves the way for an active participation in the establishment of the Reign of god on earth.

Don Bosco in Sri Lanka and all over the world is committed for the vocational education and upliftment of the poor and abandoned Youth. Out of 16 Don Bosco Institutes scattered all over the Island offering highly demand driven vocational courses for the youth, Don Bosco in Kurunegala District Metiyagane is the only institute that offers courses in civil Engineering.
The Metiyagane Don Bosco Centre ceremonially inaugurated the civil Engineering course as its first course for youth in January 2011 with the vision to see youth of our country excelling in both virtue, knowledge and in the skills, and serving our motherland. This was really the realization of a cherished dream that the local community, especially the youth, their parents in the area and everyone all over the island had been dreaming of.
According to the sources received from the Education Sector a large amount of youth population annually remain without entering into higher education. After some years they become a jobless group and some of them would be involved in anti-social activities, since they have nothing to do. So, there is a huge need to create skilful youth. Those who have passed G.C.E. Advanced Level examination and do not have the required skills to obtain jobs caused to create the vacuum in the job market. So the Don Bosco Metiyagane has come up with the sole purpose to commit to shape the destiny of the poor and abandoned youth, by empowering them with modern skills and these youth will become agents of changing the nation.
